Aurelia’s golden touch

It is no secret that I have been a fan and supporter of Aurelia Probiotic Skincare from the beginning. It is one of those rare brands that walks its own, unique path, honestly engaging with its initially small, but now quite significant, audience of women of various ages. From the ethos to the beautifully feminine, unique smells of products, on which, interestingly, men comment generously, indulging our flirtatious side and hopefully helping each women feel more confident, the brand is hard to miss or not fall under its spell. Having said that, while I look forward to each Aurelia launch, I don’t start with gushing and put my responsible hat on, as my reviews are always honest and hopefully unbiased, whether I know brand founders or not. Now, to Aurelia’s new first – Aromatic Repair and Brighten Cream, that I have been using for about three weeks at the time of the initial edit of this post.

Aurelia has a lovely body oil but this is a first treatment that the team developed for our hard-working hands. Most of us take our two hard workers for granted, until they become so dry or red, that we actually start smothering them in cream. I, for one, have several dotted around my home and even my work desk, but only one or two products that I actually use regularly. This particular cream comes in a gorgeous golden long tube. Long you ask? Yep, unlike many hand creams that come in small packaging, this one comes in a long, like the legs of a model, and hence noticeable, tube, so if you put it in the depth of your hand bag, unlike smaller sized-ones that get lost, until you empty the bag to sort through your treasures, this one will give you a golden wink, reminding you to nurture your hands. It also acts as a gorgeous focal point on your work desk, if you work in the office.

Aromatic Repair and Brighten Hand cream ‘has been especially formulated to help diminish sings of pigmentation, while deeply hydrating and nourishing the skin for brighter, younger looking hands and stronger nails’ according to the press release accompanying the product’s release.

The cream has a herbal scent, that initially I wasn’t sure about – it’s not that I disliked it, but it certainly didn’t win me over from the first squeeze, unlike other Aurelia products. It has a heady smell of aromatic essential oil blends of Vetiver, Ylang Ylang, Lavender & Patchouli, that together are meant to make sure that the product complements existing Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Age-Prevention range. It has a rich texture but sinks in very quickly ( my tip: do squeeze a little more out and enjoy giving yourself a hand massage, focussing on each finger and then massaging it into cuticles as well. If you, like me, spend a lot of time at your desk, it will be a welcome five-minute distraction that will hopefully will rejuvenate you – you can easily combine a hand massage with a quick meditation. Aurelia tip: you can also apply it to your elbows, knees and heels – the areas that are more prone to dryness ). The cream does feel a little sticky but once it sinks into the hands, it gives an almost light, cooling sensation, that is quite pleasant.

As we age, our prolonged and unprotected sun exposure becomes more apparent with emergence of pigmentation spots, so while developing this product Aurelia created its unique Pigmentation Complex, based on sea daffodil ( plant native to Mediterranean region ), which helps to reduce the size and density of pigmentation spots, is 15% more effective than kojic acid ( derived from grape sugar & known for its lightening properties; is often used in cosmetics for acne and pigmentation ) and 27% more effective than arbutin ( is often used because it doesn’t irritate the skin, while lightening it, plus it is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties; the ‘negative’ factor is that it can be unstable when packaged, so can be tricky to store ) at reducing the quantity of melanin released into the skin. Team Aurelia shares the statistic that their ‘Pigmentation Complex causes existing pigment spots to fade in colour by up to 61,5% and in size by up to 61%. It also prevents the formation of new groups of overactive pigment-producing cells in response to skin stress or photo-ageing’.

Cassia Senna, which mimics hyaluronic acid and boosts skin hydration for long-lasting results with regular use, as well as

Omega-rich Baobab and

Kigelia Africana, that contains high levels of essential fatty acids to nourish & firm the skin, as well as helps restore skin’s own protective barrier

My overall impression is that it is the product that is different from other handcare products, both in looks and effect, and that women are going to enjoy using it, hopefully nurturing their hands more regularly than they normally do.
