Autumn Skin Series: Merumaya Overnight Recharge Night Cream

A good moisturiser is a much-needed friend whatever time of the year but particularly so much so when the weather changes from hot to cold and your skin needs to make adjustments. If you prefer a cream with a lightweight texture, instead of oil, to use at night-time, then Merumaya Overnight Recharge Night Cream, the latest addition to this British Skincare Range is worth considering as nights become longer & colder.

Maleka Dattu‘s ( Merumaya’s founder ) brief to her formulators and scientists was to create a formula that will effectively help with essential multi-cellular moisturisation, will diminish signs of fatigue, will restore and repair the skin, while also firming and lifting it. Maleka believes that it is never too late to address your skin’s needs but of course the younger you start looking after your skin ( in your 20s is a good benchmark ) the younger and healthier you will potentially look with the passing of time, provided you also look after your health and will make appropriate lifestyle choices.

The formula uses a few ingredients across which one doesn’t come across often and they are as follows:

Gatuline In-Tense: helps to restore skin’s density and firmness while supporting the collagen production.

Prodizia: focusses on the adverse effects of glycation and helps to repair your skin as you sleep, so hopefully you will wake up looking refreshed & re-energised.

Idealift: as its name suggests, it focusses on firming your skin by stimulating elastin production in your skin’s matrix.

Sytenol: this ingredient has retinol action without the sensitivity concerns and focusses on improving skin’s elasticity, as well as offering anti-oxidant protection.

Merumaya night cream also includes two different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid which helps to keep your skin plump and moisturised on the surface – no skincare will be effective without you drinking an adequate amount of water daily though. Without water in your body your cells will shrink and your skin will show the effect of not enough fluids in your body, both short and long-term – drinking enough water becomes particularly important with the arrival of the colder weather outside and constant exposure to heating and air-conditioning when you are inside.

The cream itself has a rich texture, yet it feels more like a light-weight serum when you massage it into the skin. It sinks in almost immediately, without a trace or residue and makes the skin feel soft and plumper to the touch as soon as you finnish its application. The complexion also looks a little brighter straight away, which is a lovely thing to notice as you glance at yourself in the mirror, before going to bed. It also has Merumaya’s signature essence blend, which is uplifting & feminine but I do find it a little bit too overpowering at times for my own taste. However, there is a little twist here – if, like me, you find the scent of the product a little too strong initially, see how you feel an hour later or in the morning – it might grow on you, like a poem that starts in one place and flows into a slightly subtler context.
