Bodhi Bodycare products: review of Jasmine Falls and Flora Paradiso

I have been hearing rumblings about Bodhi skincare but it was my fellow blogger Danny Stokes who kept on telling me how much he loves Jasmine Falls in particular. Then in April, during Natural & Organic Show, at the Organic Burst stand I was introduced to Elijah Choo, the brand’s founder and the rest, as they say, is history or more to the point, with every passing day I love Bodhi products more and more, falling even deeper under their magical spell.

As Elijah, a generous man with a mischivious spark in his eyes and a wonderful sense of humour, says himself, ‘Bodhi is a journey  for me. An extension of my life, what I love and what inspires me’. That passion comes through in every single product that Bodhi makes and special they certainly are.

Even before I got to smell Bodhi products they made me smile. Why, would you ask? Well, each parcel is wrapped with such care and such detail, it makes you pause and treasure the moment there and then, because receiving a parcel like that instantly makes you feel special. When I mentioned it to Elijah, he modestly replied that ‘ I am a consumer first and foremost’ and that is certainly true when you look at how the packaging is designed, how easy it is to use their bottles in the shower or in the bathroom, how cool they look on your bathroom shelf, drawing your eye to them, almost waving at you ‘come on, pick me and enjoy the moments that follow’.

The first Bodhi product that I tried was Jasmine Falls Relaxing Bath & Shower. You open the bottle and pore a little of the product into your hand or on your sponge and massage it all over your body, inhaling the beautiful fragrance of Jasmine Absolute Flower extract, mixed with coconut oil, lavender flower oil, Ylang Ylang, Vetyver and Red Mandarin Orange peel and as you body relaxes, your mind stops whirring like a made clock and starts calming down. As Elijah explained to me, Jasmine is a very potent flower, as it brings the sense of euphoria to you. Thinking about it, my mind went back to the memory of spending time at my parents country house ( dacha ) when I was in my teens and drinking tea in the tea house, next to Jasmine bushes-until now I thought it was the tea and delicious sandwiches with butter and my grandmother’s strawberry jam that made me feel happily euphoric-now I know Jasmine played a big part in it too. The product lathers easily and envelopes your body in  a comforting hug. The more I use this product in the shower, the more I become attached, addicted to it. I find the smell a little bit male, strong, powerful and yet it makes me feel feminine at the same time. It lingers on your skin and you fall asleep feeling calm and content, like a princess without a pea under her matress.

If you want to heighten this bath or shower experience ( and it does make you skin feel soft in the first place ) you can use Jasmine Falls Relaxing Body Moisturiser. I tend to put it on my arms, shoulders and legs, massaging my limbs and extending the pampering sensation, which further relaxes my muscles and get me into a sleepy, calm, relaxed mood which leads to a much better sleep, allowing you to wake up refreshed and energised and ready for the day ahead, even if it is gloomy or pouring with rain outside. What also makes this body moisturiser very enticing is the fact that it is formulated without any acrylic polymers, so a little goes a long way. It has a texture that reminds me a little of the lightly whipped cream and it sinks into the skin within a few minutes and nurtures, as well as tones it. Jasmine Absolute helps to sooth the skin, refining it while also relaxing your mind. High-Altitude Lavender was added for its rich content of linalyl acetate, renowned for its skin conditioning and healing, as well as rejuvenating properties. Kukui Nut Oil, rich in vitamins A & E, as well as in oleic acid (omega 9), linoleic acid (omega 6) and alpha linolenic acid (omega 3) helps to renew your skin, while you sleep, when skin regeneration is at its highest. Shea Butter helps to soothe, nourish and hydrate skin.

When I use those two products together my mind calms down, my sense of oneself become serene and even if there were fireworks going on around me, I would be calm and feeling like I am sitting on the beach in the Maldives, watching a beautiful sunset and dolphins splashing in and out of the water. Maybe that’s the product that can make world peace happen?

Flora Paradiso De-Stress Massage & Body Oil: inspired by traditional massage techniques from South-East Asia, this oil combines relaxing and ‘calming properties of Ylang-Ylang blossoms, infused with High-Altitude Lavender and grounded with Atlas Cedarwood. A fruity floral with a sensual amber base, Flora Paradiso conjures up temple ceremonies, mandi baths and rich Indonesian woods’. When you read such a press release even before you start using the product it makes you dream of travels and far away lands, fused with traditions, historical and cultural references. To me, in big part, its what Bodhi products are all about-they take you on sensory journeys to far-away lands allowing your soul to sing, the mind to dream and the body to relax or feel energised or be sensual.

The oil itself have a rich, nourishing feel to it and a beautifully fragrant smell. If I am working in the evening I apply a few drops on the inside of my wrists and within a few minutes, as I focus on inhaling and exhaling the secent of the oil, my mind calms down but I also feel centered and alert, so my writing becomes clearer, more to the point. Or you can use it after a bath, to nourish your skin, and see how it feels so much softer after just five minutes.

Ylang-ylang is know not only for its calming properties but for helping to lower blood pressure-particularly helpful if you lead a stressful lifestyle or work in a high-pressure environment. It is also considered to be an aphrodisiac. Atlas Cedarwood not only helps to ground you, but can also help to alleviate insomnia, hence my point about feeling relaxed yet centered, in balance with yourself-a good feeling to have at the end of each day.

The oil comes in a biophotonic violet glass, which helps to preserve the ingredeints and keeps the formula stable-but once opened, the product should be used within six months. In my case, I don’t think its going to last that long, even with my best intentions to savour the product, like I would a special cup of tea. Each day is special and depending on your mood or the type of the day that you had, choose your Bodhi product accordingly and savour each breath that you take, infused with theuraputic ingredients-my idea of heavenly bliss!
